About Brenda:
The entirety of my 35-year career has focused on improving health and wellbeing across the age spectrum in varying settings: corporate, non-profit, governmental and educational. I've served as Community Chair, KCMO Board of Health Commissioners; President, KC Healthy Kids, a non-profit; Vice President, Mid-America Coalition on Health Care, a stakeholder think tank and as Director of Corporate Wellness, AVCA. I am currently in my 15th season as Head Coach, Cross Country/Track & Field, Academie Lafayette K-8.
I am a long-time member of the Junior League, KCMO serving as a past board member. Other board service includes: the American Heart Association, Ozanam, Cultivate KC and at present, KC Healthy Kids and KC Shepherd’s Center as their Board President. As part of this bio, I am to share a special achievement. After losing coaching in 2020 (Covid), I stepped onto the track after 33 years to race in the Senior Games 200m and 400m. I won gold in both, qualified for Nationals and achieved USTF Masters All-American status (400m time). I wanted to show the kids I coach that AGE is irrelevant-same hearts, same dreams and same drive. Commit with joy!
I have the support of my two loving sons, Mason and Bennett and outstanding parents who demonstrated it is an honor to give back to your community. I am involved with Prom with a Purpose to pass that lesson of service to my sons and lift up the challenges and celebrate the talents of our incredible, timeless seniors.
